MABE - INSPIRATION : Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) a renowned architect, designer, water colourist and artist from Glasgow, known for his unique and innovative style that still looks fresh today. He melded his love of Asian art with modernist influences of the day, set against the industrial backdrop of the Glasgow shipyards that surrounded him. Above all Mackintosh was a man who found solace in nature with a deep love for the countryside and it’s flora and fauna, giving  him huge inspiration for many of his stained glass and watercolour series.

Like many artists stories he was under appreciated in his own time yet 150 years later he is still celebrated worldwide for his remarkable talent that spans multiple disciplines.

As we transition into spring, we can appreciate even more Mackintosh’s passion for nature. Seeing how nature unfolds and awakens with flowers blossoming, birds singing, reminds us the beauty of the world once again.
